Success Bell

Letter To Mr. Maloy, Ada High Principal, From Wyatt
Mr. Maloy,
For the past two years I have been attending a camp called Kanakuk. This camp is so amazing for a lot of reasons including: you feel like there is no competition for social status and it allows you to drop walls that we as humans have put up. Besides all the things that are emotional, there is a major physical element. It’s the bells! The bells are a big deal at Kanakuk. They sit in the middle of camp for everyone to pass by and see. During the day, the bells may look like they are collecting dust, when in reality, they are just taking tiny breaks for what the night holds. Generally, when the sun sets over the trees and the summer night hits you in the face is when the bells come to life. Ring goes the first bell. Ring, ring goes the second and third. There is nothing like this sound. It's one unanimous harmony that just gives you joy, hope, chills, excitement, and energy that is accompanied by a parade of cheers from everywhere.
The reason these bells are such a big deal is that you know when you hear the deep ring throughout camp someone is proclaiming to the world with one simple act that they have experienced an earthshaking shift in their life. It’s crazy to think that with a move of your hand you can get a movement of people supporting, loving, and celebrating with you.
My goal as a District 4 STUCO officer and Ada High student is to create something in our school and the schools around us to change our culture into an environment that honors everybody. This is where the bells come into play. I would like to start a movement called the “Success Bell”. This “Success Bell” would be put in our high school for all the students to pass by and hear. It would be rung by anyone at Ada High for having success in their life (with some rules we can talk about those in person). Success comes in all forms and I believe we don’t celebrate each other enough. For example: a kid got his first job, another student made it to school on time everyday for a week, or a teacher got all her grades entered early. Even a team winning a state title would ring the bell, but it’s not just about state titles. Everyone’s success is gaged differently, and the bell would celebrate that. When the students hear the bell ring they would know that someone deserves to be celebrated. It takes everyone to make Ada High a success, so the goal would be to get everyone to ring the bell at least once this school year. I believe the success bell will create unity and change a culture that prides itself on honoring the achievements of others.
I would love to set up a time to discuss this idea with you. Please let me know when you are available.
Sincerely,
Wyatt Brown
