Our Story

Love Theory was born Wednesday night in our family den in 2021.  Friends sitting around discussing personal, local, and world issues, realizing that love could solve or have prevented them all.  Not romantic love, but love that looks out for others' well-being, works when no one else is watching, never gives up, cares for people more than self, doesn't keep score, doesn't celebrate when friends fail, sits and listens, and looks for the best in people–that kind of love.  Love that can sustain, solve, or repair all that is going on around us.  Wyatt's friend Zac said through this open dialogue between friends, "This is Love Theory." So Wyatt took note as all deep thinkers do.

That summer before his junior year, Wyatt returned from Kamp with a stuffed llama and the inspiration to be his "true self" when school began.  We questioned him on his first day of school, not knowing what it was all about.

"Are you going to school with that llama on your backpack like that?

"Yep, it's a great conversation starter."

Later that fall, his dream of the Love Theory sweatshirt finally came to life as a collab with his older brother Winston, who owned his own t-shirt business.  He sold about 15, and he was ecstatic with that.

Wyatt continued the Love Theory model at school with his classmates until his passing on November 27, 2021, but only after laying the groundwork for a potential legacy.

We decided to continue what he started and saw that this was bigger than a shirt, just like Wyatt.  How do we know he thought it was more significant than the shirt?  For one, he never cashed the check for the shirt sales he fought so hard to get out there.  We found it folded up in his wallet.  Since his death, we've sold over 2,000 Love Theory shirts nationwide - he never would have believed it.  More importantly,  in his journal entry the morning before his first day of school, he wrote, "My goal is to change the atmosphere at Ada High.  It's going to take me building relationships with EVERYONE…"

The journey to love began with this, and we will continue Wyatt's legacy of love.
